Hey Ian! What’s your role at Punch:
I: I’m a Digital Director
What did you want to be when you grew up?
I: I wanted to be an architect, and was enrolled on the course. But, you had to go to Building College for four years, and I hated it so much that after two days I left, and pursued the arts instead.
Very interesting! What are you responsible for at Punch?
I: My role as Digital Director is to lead all aspects of digital strategy, and manage “the lads” (the web development & UI/UX team). I also part-own Punch, so I get involved in “big boss” business sometimes too.
What do you love the most about being Punch’s Digital Director?
I: I love the fact that we are a fully integrated agency and have a wide and varied range of clients and sectors. This means that the type of work I encounter changes dramatically from one day to the next.
Monday could be helping a start up to review a competitor set for an audit. Tuesday, reworking an SEO strategy for a multi million pound blue chip company. Wednesday is creating and launching a PPC campaign for a kids clothing brand, and Thursday is helping map out am automated chat bot for a big Pharma company.
There is always something of interest to do at Punch.
What’s the thing you’re known for around the office?
I: I love strategy and data, discovering what makes users tick and how we can influence audiences and make change from simple but effect decisions.
I don’t have a favourite project but I do have a favourite type of client. These are the ones who want to come on a journey with us and openly invite us to help set/create shared business objectives.
You’ve been with Punch for a while! it’s really impressive. During that time, what’s been your favourite Punch project to work on?
I: I don’t have a favourite project but I do have a favourite type of client. These are the ones who want to come on a journey with us and openly invite us to help set/create shared business objectives.
They’re for sure the most fun clients to work with. Switching gears – what’s your favourite place in the world?
I: Definitely Italy – food, drinks, culture and climate – it has it all! I’d pick Rome for the city, and Sardinia for the coast.
If you were going to be an animal, what would you be?
I: I quite like Octopus (octopi???) as they’re phenomenal creatures in terms of their abilities and brain power. They’ve got nine brains, three hearts, blue blood, and beaks. The only bad point really is they’re seriously ugly and very creepy.
I think the plural can be octopi, octopuses, or even octopodes, but you’re definitely not ugly or creepy! What’s your lifestyle like?
I: Spending quality time with my Family, food, drinks, holidays abroad & socializing with friends.
Do you have a saying you love to live by?:
I: Not got many rules or mantras, but I try to live life by doing my best to be polite and kind. It costs nothing, and means everything.
