Meet Andy

Hi Andy! What’s your role at Punch?
A: Senior Graphic Designer

What job did you want when you were little?
A: I wanted to be a footballer or a tennis player – it was always something to do with sport or art, I was always creating things even as a kid!

Sounds like younger you would be happy with where you ended up. What do your days entail as a Senior Graphic Designer at Punch?
A: I’m a creative designer, leading on the agency’s UI/UX projects. I also help to run the design team with Julie, our Head of Design.

What do you love the most about your role?
A: Brand and creative are my favourite things to work on, although I tend to pitch in across all design areas.

I also enjoy working closely with our digital department, using my UI/UX knowledge to take things to the next level on our website projects.

What do you think you’re best known for?
A: I have a passion for branding, and like to keep my industry knowledge up to date by attending conferences, following various accounts on social media, and trying out new technology. Basically just staying in the know with all things design – yes, I am a creative nerd. We do exist!

I trust you on that, don’t worry. Do you have a favourite project you’ve worked on at Punch?
A: It has to be the rebrand I did for Snap Finance where I was able to introduce a design system built on bright colour and bold typography.

As well as the customer facing brand, I also looked at their internal communications, and brought in a playful illustration style to add some personality. It gave me the freedom to be super creative and show off my branding skills.

That sounds really cool. Switching gears, where’s your favourite place?
A: Copenhagen. The architecture’s really nice, lots of Scandinavian design, and great coffee shops. I felt very relaxed and inspired there so it was the ideal location for me.

If you were going to be an animal, what would you be?
A: Chimpanzee, as they’re apparently overly competitive (not that I am… of course!), and I like their fun and cheeky personalities.

Of course not! What’s your lifestyle like outside of Punch?
A: Outside of work I play a lot of tennis competitively for teams in the Leeds, Bradford, and Sheffield leagues. I also play badminton socially, enjoy walking, and exploring new places.

I’m a big Liverpool FC fan (dangerous when living in Leeds) and enjoy trying different craft beers.

Very sporty. Finally, do you have a saying you live by?
A: It’s got to be something to do with being competitive – something like “losing is not an option” or “winning is the only option”. Again, I’m definitely not overly competitive… much.
